(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police said they’re still looking for the second of two suspected carjackers who stole a Corvette at gunpoint in Elk Grove Village and led police on a chase that ended with a crash Tuesday on Chicago’s South Side.

Elk Grove Village Police Chief Charles Walsh said it began when the two men pulled up in another stolen vehicle on Elmhurst Road near Panem Boulevard. He said at least one of them pointed a gun at the owner of the sports car.

“A white, 2015 Chevy Corvette was taken [at] gunpoint,” Walsh said. “The vehicle fled southbound on Busse Road. Our investigators in Elk Grove Village put out an alert.”

Walsh said several hours later, a police officer in Country Club Hills spotted the Corvette near 169th Street and Pulaski Road and chased it to a ramp from Interstate 57 to the Bishop Ford Expressway.

Walsh said that’s where the car crashed and burst into flames.

Country Club Hills police said only one of the suspected carjackers was in the Corvette, and he was arrested after a brief foot chase.

The suspect who was arrested was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
