Stormy weather leads to over 300 canceled flights at Chicago airports

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - This morning's stormy weather has wrecked havoc on Chicago air travel.

As of 11:45 a.m., there were 294 canceled flights at O’Hare and an average delay of 48 minutes. While at Midway, 53 have been canceled, with an average delay of 59 minutes.

The Federal Aviation Administration had issued a ground stop earlier this morning for both airports while heaviest storms came through.

Several thunderstorms containing strong winds and hail rocked the Chicago area throughout the morning. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was in place until 11 a.m.
