(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — While some restaurants are eagerly waiting for the end of Gov. JB Pritzker’s mask mandate, a dining spot in Highland Park is more focused on ending that city’s proof-of-vaccination requirement.

Jim Lederer — owner of Bluegrass restaurant — is not too bothered by the mask mandate that’s set to go away at the end of the month.

What he wants gone is Highland Park’s proof-of-vaccination requirement — something other restaurants in Lake County don’t have to contend with and many of his customers aren’t aware of, Lederer said.

The restaurateur said he turned down a city council member’s offer to try to get the mandate lifted in time for this weekend. He says he’d rather not risk an extension and just have the council end it Monday at their meeting.

That way, he can focus on Fat Tuesday, which is March 1, he said.
