AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Organizers will find out later this morning if the Aurora Pride Parade can go on as scheduled this Sunday.
The city will hear an appeal from Aurora Pride at 10:30 a.m. after their Special Events permit was revoked on Wednesday due to not having sufficient parade security in place for the parade by the required noon deadline.
The Aurora Police Department had told organizers on Tuesday that not enough sworn officers had volunteered to work the parade and therefore asked if they could find law enforcement from other jurisdictions. The request came after Aurora Police was told last month that they could not wear their uniforms while marching in the parade.
Wednesday, event planners remained hopeful.
“We’re not giving up. Our position has been misrepresented, and we’re making every effort to keep the parade as scheduled. Thank you for your steadfast support, and please hang tight,” Aurora Pride said in their statement.
