(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two Chicago men face several charges after they allegedly beat and robbed an elderly man before attempting to flee police and crashing the vehicle they were in.

Oak Lawn Police say they responded Friday evening to a report of two males battering an elderly man at a Citgo gas station. A sergeant observed two suspects enter a black Nissan Versa and flee westbound on 87th Street.

The police officer attempted to stop the vehicle at a shopping mall at 87th and Harlem, but the suspects allegedly continued trying to escape and drove through an active investigation at 84th and Harlem being conducted by Bridgeview police.

The vehicle made it to Burbank, where it crashed into an automobile at 83rd and Nottingham, Oak Lawn police said. The suspects and the occupants in the vehicle they hit were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and treated for minor injuries.

In the suspects’ vehicle, police say they found the cell phone and the money that belonged to the elderly men who had been robbed. The 74-year-old victim was treated for broken ribs and contusions, police said.

Ivan Garduno, 26, and 31-year-old Heberto Flores of Chicago were charged with a variety of offenses, including aggravated battery, robbery, reckless driving, driving under the influence, police said.
