EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There’s some kind of insect infestation in south suburban Evergreen Park.

Lee Harwig noticed the little black bugs over the weekend-initially on her dogs after they had been in her backyard, then in her pool in Evergreen Park.

She spoke to CBS 2 about the swarm that had piles of bugs on the street.

"Oh yeah, everywhere. As soon as I looked out the backdoor, that's all I could see back here."

University of Illinois entomologist Chris Dietrich told CBS 2 it’s not clear what they are, but he has some ideas.

"There are soybean aphids that migrate out of the soybean field," Dietrich said. "They're wingless so they don't fly, but towards the end of the season, they develop a wing form."

He said the bugs could also be gnats. "Fortunately, these kind of swarms usually only last for a few days.
