(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A teacher at North Elementary School in Des Plaines is accused of battering students on multiple occasions.

Lai Ying T. Escobedo, 44, is charged with four counts of misdemeanor battery, Des Plaines police announced Thursday.

Four students ranging in age from 7 to 8 told police that Escobedo had pulled their ears, struck them in the head with a folder or closed fist and pushed their heads toward the tables they sit at. The incidents allegedly happened between Dec.
21, 2022 and Jan. 11, 2023, police said.

None of the children were seriously injured, authorities said.

School officials reportedly were alerted about Escobedo’s actions on Jan. 11 and removed her from her duties, while police and state child-welfare officials investigated.

Escobedo is expected in court April 3.

No further details were available.
