CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Teachers at the Chicago High School for the Arts - the city's only privately managed public arts high school - say they will go on strike in a week if they don't have a contract.

The ChiArts board said in a statement that they have been "bargaining diligently and in good faith" and that they "look forward to reaching agreement with the CTU."

The Chicago High School for the Arts near Humboldt Park opened its doors 14 years ago.

And now teachers, who are part of the CTU, say they've been without a contract for well over a year - and they're threatening to walk out next Wednesday.

Teacher Kyle Cortes is a member of the bargaining committee.

"This contract is for our community, which means for us, stability and in seven days time we must have it - signed, sealed and delivered," he said.

Teachers at the Chicago High School for the Arts are questioning cuts they say the school has made, and they say administrators' salaries are too high and that one administrator's salary could fill three teacher vacancies.
