(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Highland Park teen has been charged as an adult after allegedly shooting and killing a 16-year-old boy over the weekend in the North Shore community.
Estiven Sarminento, also 16, faces two counts of first-degree murder and was expected to appear in court Tuesday, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force announced.
Authorities said detectives zeroed in on Sarminento after reviewing evidence and video surveillance and conducting interviews. The teen allegedly shot Omar Diaz, of Highwood, on Sunday morning in the 2300 block of Green Bay Road.
Diaz and Sarminento had an ongoing dispute, authorities said.
Prior to the shooting, the victim was walking on the sidewalk and approached by the offender, officials said previously. The two engaged in a brief conversation before the offender took out a gun and fired.
