(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel is officially Officer DJ Daniel.
Dj's father Theodis Daniel says Chicago is their 795th stop since starting a tour of police departments across the country, after Dj was diagnosed with brain and spine cancer.
"Chicago steps up -- they're up there, I'll tell you what. I wasn't expecting it to be this way, but they showed up and showed out,” he said.
Daniel says it's the kind of compassion from CPD that DJ looks up to.
“The family network, the camaraderie, he says the sacrifices they do day in and day out.”
And he says it isn't just a dream come true for DJ.
"I'm fighting a battle within myself because I have to take care of my kids and keep them in good spirits, but seeing everyone happy warms me up inside."
