“We really appreciate being voted the number one deep dish in Chicago by the listeners of WBBM,” said Marc Malnati, Lou Malnati’s owner.

Lou Malnati’s received 30% of your votes, Pequod's came in second place and Gino's East in third. Our other category is an honorable mention, which highlighted 23 different pizzerias, including Pizano's, Giordano's, Art of Pizza, and more.

“Deep dish is truly the heart and soul of Chicago pizza,” Malnati said.

The first Lou Malnati’s store opened in Lincolnwood in 1971, Marc Malnati was 15 at the time.

“We’ve been making pizzas forever,” Malnati said.

The landmark pizza restaurant has been resilient through the pandemic. Malnati attributes the success of the business during the pandemic to his staff.

“It was something to really be seen. People were courageous and worked together like never before,” Malnati said.

While dining in became impossible, pick up and carry out orders surged — even cross country shipping became the new normal. Malnati says he appreciates the endless customer support.
