(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Fall into the magic and wonder of the Chicago Botanic Garden Orchid Show, which brings the whimsical fun of the flower to life with music, colorful lights and carnival rides.
“We're really highlighting the fun aspect of the orchid,” said Jodi Zombolo, the associate vice president of visitor events and programs. “They are the star of the show.”
Now through March 28, visitors will be able to experience the Orchid Show of Wonders. The show is an immersive experience that takes people through the big tents, funhouse and delicious treats of a carnival to highlight thousands of flowers.
“It's not so much concentrating on the educational component, which is very important, but just really enjoying yourself and coming and thinking back to all those fun days as a child,” Zombolo said.
Those interested in the educational aspect, though, will still be able to get their fill. Master gardeners will be on-site to answer questions about orchids and the care they require.
Additionally, on March 9 – 10, the Illinois Orchid Society will be selling orchids and educating people on how to care for and re-pot the plants.
“It's really not as hard as you think,” Zombolo said. “Once people learn, she is confident they will be able to successfully continue the care of the plant.
Some other special offerings include photographers’ hours on Tuesdays for 30 minutes in the morning and evening. This time offers photographers time to bring in their tripods and take photos with a limited number of people present.
For people looking to really lean into the whimsy of the show, on select Thursday and Friday nights, Orchids After Hours will offer a view of the show at dark and carnival inspired food and cocktails for purchase.
