(CHICAGO WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- March for Our Lives rallies were held across the nation today, including in Chicago.
The rallies are part of an effort to end gun violence following the recent mass shootings at a Texas elementary school and a Buffalo grocery store.
The demonstrators held signs saying things like "Vote out the NRA," "Stop Gun Violence," "Protect Kids, Not Guns," and "Today We March, Tomorrow We Vote."
17-year-old Peyton Arems of Naperville helped organized the event.
"We are out here to demand action from political leaders. We're telling them they need to pass the bills we've been asking for, this life-saving legislation or get out of office," he told WBBM.
"It has really come down to that. I think if anything the march here and the over 450 local marches across the country really show, this is what the people want."
Arems was asked if people his age should have to be doing this.
"I'm ashamed to say that in our country it has come down to the kids who are literally taking more action to save lives from gun violence than our political leaders," he said.
"They have done almost nothing to save our lives and so students are having to step up and take that action ourselves."
People from across Chicago, the suburbs, and even Canada attended the demonstration at Federal Plaza.
