(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Former Bears players Steve McMichael, Devin Hester and Julius Peppers will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it was formally announced Thursday evening.

The 66-year-old McMichael, a tackle on the legendary 1985 Bears team that won the Super Bowl, has been battling ALS, and fans launched a campaign on behalf of the player affectionately known as “Mongo" to get him in the Hall.

Hester, 41, was the dynamic return specialist and eight-year Bears veteran who set an NFL record with 20 regular-season return touchdowns.

Peppers, 44, was a defensive end and linebacker who spent four seasons with Chicago and had a career 159.5 sacks. He is a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

The announcement of the Hall of Fame 2024 Class was made during the National Football League Honors show in Las Vegas, where the Super Bowl is being held this weekend. Hester and Peppers joined McMichael's wife, Misty, onstage as the class was introduced.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in Canton, Ohio this summer.
