(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Smash-and-grab burglaries have become common across Chicago and other cities, but a St. Louis-based company hopes to make them obsolete with a unique anti-theft concept.
“They can’t see it; they can’t steal it,” said Density USA President Mike Egel.
That’s the simple premise behind Density USA’s security fog generators. Egel told WBBM a combination of water and glycol will stay in the air for 45 minutes to one hour — long enough to give police time to arrive.
The resulting fog isn’t harmful, but it will make it nearly impossible to see merchandise and valuables.
“And when the fog deploys, there’s nothing to clean up; there’s no residue,” he said.
He said the fog will safely and quickly fill a space and discourage thieves from staying.
Density USA has a few customers in Chicago already, Egel said, and they are working with alarm companies to sell the systems.
