(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A new take on a beloved American novel and film returns to the stage in Chicago.
The touring production of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” headlined by television and film actor Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch, runs from Aug. 8 through Aug.
13 at the CIBC Theatre in the Loop.
The cast includes Jacqueline Williams, an Evanston native and DePaul University alum who plays the mother figure role of Calpurnia. She remembers reading Harper Lee’s source novel as a child.
She says the new adaptation by Aaron Sorkin really resonates with today’s audiences.
“Even if you’ve read the book and even if you’ve seen the film – or both – it’s still the same story, it still honors the story, but it’s so much more.”

Williams says it's good to be back in her hometown.
“It has been so fulfilling artistically and personally,” she tells WBBM Newsradio. “It means a great deal to play this show at home because I love my hometown.”
