(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A northwest side high school has a new football coach with NFL credentials.

Tom Zbikowski is the new head coach of the football program at Saint Patrick High School in Chicago’s Belmont-Cragin neighborhood.

He was an All-American safety at Notre Dame, played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.

He served as a defensive coach at Western Michigan in 2022.

He grew up in Arlington Heights before getting into coaching and served as a Chicago firefighter for a while.

"Returning to Chicago to coach at Saint Patrick High School is a full-circle moment for me. I’m excited to bring a tough, disciplined mentality to the team and to build a program that the entire community can be proud of,” Zbikowski said in a statement shared on Facebook.

“I recognize that I’ve accomplished many things in life, but having the ability to impact a kid’s life is the most important of them all.”

Zbikowski takes over a Saint Patrick team that's coming off a 2-7 season.
