(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning for parts of southern Cook County on Tuesday.
The alert included Homewood, Matteson, Country Club Hills, Hazel Crest, Richton Park, Flossmoor and Olympia Fields.
Officials said the alert would remain in effect until 12:45 p.m.
NWS Chicago recommended moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. It’s best to avoid windows, officials said.
Anyone who is outside was instructed to move to the closest shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
