(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Three people face burglary and retail theft charges after allegedly trying to shoplift nearly $1,500 in merchandise from a department store by concealing the goods in a baby stroller last week, DuPage County prosecutors say.

Sergio Rojas Jaimes, 37, of West Chicago; Juan Sebastian Rojas Jaimes, 25, of Niles, and 30-year-old Shirley Vanessa Oviedo-Ortiz of Niles allegedly tried to steal 29 items of clothing valued at $1,458 at the Oak Brook Center Macy’s on Dec. 14. They did this by placing the merchandise in an “occupied infant’s stroller” and attempting to leave the store without paying, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

All were arrested and released pending trial, according to prosecutors, who say the incident is part of a larger trend of retail theft during the holiday shopping season.

In another incident this past Sunday, Jordan Antonio Mezamunoz, 25, allegedly tried to steal more than $1,000 worth of men’s clothing from Macy’s and was in possession of a magnet and wire cutters to circumvent security devices.

A judge ordered him held, and Mezamunoz is next expected in court Jan. 8, officials said.
