(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in west suburban Lisle have revealed that they’re investigating the stabbing of two young children, an attack that occurred last Friday evening.

Officers were dispatched to a home on the 1900 block of Matson Lane around 5:30 p.m. when the home owner reported someone he knew was inside, armed with a knife, and that his two children – aged 1 and 4 – were covered in blood.

The statement says officers rushed inside and located the children, who had suffered stab wounds.

They took a female into custody, officials said. The relationship between the female and the children was not disclosed.

The children were hospitalized in stable condition.

An investigation continues, Lisle Chief of Police Kevin Licko said.
