CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The University of Chicago is following the lead of other universities responding to rising COVID-19 cases.

The start of the winter quarter at the U of C will be delayed by a week to Jan. 10 and they’re going remote for classes for the first two weeks.

A statement from the university said its anticipated that in-person classes will resume on Jan. 24.

In the meantime, students are urged to avoid gatherings and those living in residence halls are being asked not to return until Jan. 20,  if possible.

This follows similar plans by Northwestern University, DePaul University, the University of Illinois Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
