CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The countdown is on Chicago, as walk-through COVID-19 vaccinations are coming to an end Monday at the United Center. Be sure to get your shot before the final buzzer!
Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said walk-up COVID-19 vaccinations at the United Center are coming to an end, but the drive-through operation will continue until late June.
"So as planned, our walk-through that has been the largest number of vaccines for the United Center is closing Monday, May 24. We actually extended that. It was initially going to be an eight-week operation, but working in partnership with the federal government, we extended that, because it has been such a successful site," Dr. Arwady said.
"The drive-through will continue to operate for another month, and we do have both J&J and Pfizer available through the drive-through. We've done almost 287,000 doses administered there since March 9. There were even more that came in as part of that that were distributed in nearby communities."
The site does accept walk-ins, but people are still encouraged to make appointments online or by calling. Anyone 12 and older is eligible to get vaccinated in Illinois, including. People can make appointments online through Zocdoc or by calling 312-746-4835.
Demand for vaccines has been dropping, despite the fact that most people in Chicago and throughout the state have not been fully vaccinated.
