Unscheduled migrant drop-offs prompt new penalties for bus companies in Chicago suburbs

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — More suburban communities have taken steps to hold bus companies accountable for unscheduled drop-offs of migrants.

The moves came after these companies were cited by Chicago and have had buses impounded for surprise drop-offs in the city.

Now, a growing list of suburban communities where buses have been dropping off migrants — sometimes, but not always, with plans to put them on trains for the final leg into Chicago — have been imposing penalties.

Elburn was among the latest.

Five days notice and permits will be required, as well as background checks on the passengers.
Those found to be in violation would be fined $750 per passenger.

Aurora, Chicago Ridge, Oak Lawn and Rosemont are among the other communities taking steps to deal with unscheduled drop-offs.
