(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - CTA Brown and Purple line trains are back and up running this morning after service was suspended Tuesday evening because of a power outage near Merchandise Mart, CTA officials said.

The Brown Line service resumed at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, the CTA said.

WBBM Newsradio’s Nancy Harty was near the scene where passengers of a Brown Line train had to be escorted off a train stalled at the Chicago River.
They had been stuck on the train for more than an hour.

According to an alert from the CTA, the Purple Line Express service was temporarily stopped between Howard and the Loop. Brown Line service was stopped between Armitage and the Loop, the transit authority said.

Purple Line trains are operating only between Linden and Howard at this time, and Brown Line trains are only running between Kimball and Armitage.

The transit authority is encouraging riders to use the Red Line to avoid serious delays.

Crews were working to restore power. The CTA was running shuttle buses to connect commuters with operating trains.
