(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Taking effect in the New Year, the City of Chicago will install $2.5 million worth of speed cameras to ticket drivers.

The Johnson administration has yet to release details on where the cameras will go or how many exactly will be added to the more than 100 already active.

The cameras are estimated to raise about $11 million to pay for Chicago Police Department positions related to the federal consent decree.

The cameras will issue $35 tickets to drivers going between six and 10 mph over the speed limit and $100 tickets for drivers going even faster.

The exact number of cameras being added is not yet known.
