(WBBM Newsradio) -- Delays in mail delivery have increased significantly since the beginning of the pandemic on the South and Southwest sides, and 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea says the problem persists.
Now, telephone hotlines have been set up at the Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood post offices to report and track overdue mail, US Postal Service officials say.
O'Shea said the Postal Service has blamed chronic delays on staffing shortages as workers took pandemic-related leaves.
He said he's offered to hold job fairs to replace those workers.
The hotline number for Mt. Greenwood is (312) 983-8135; for
Morgan Park, (312) 983-8092.
The lines are staffed during business hours, and voicemails are usually returned within 24 hours, officials said.
