(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Wednesday is Valentine’s Day, and for Christians, it’s also Ash Wednesday — the start of Lent. The combination may make for some interesting choices for romantic, observant Catholics.

Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday haven’t fallen on the same day since 2018. If observant Catholics were looking for dispensation from the cardinal on the rules for fasting and not eating meat so they can celebrate Valentine’s Day with someone special, they shouldn’t look too hard.

Dispensation is not coming.

Meanwhile, besides being given out at masses and other services, ashes are being distributed across the Chicago area in train stations and at Midway and O’Hare Airports.

Some churches are also taking ashes to people in coffee shops and grocery stores.
