(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Residents of three neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side will get free video doorbells for their homes, thanks in part to the work of a longtime community activist.
Diane Latiker of Kids off the Block convinced the makers of Ring video doorbells to give away 1,000 of them, along with free monitoring service to residents of Roseland, Riverdale and Auburn-Gresham.
Latiker says the doorbells will give residents of those communities, especially seniors, an extra sense of security.
Latiker says far more than 1,000 households will apply to get one of the devices.
She's urging Ring to donate more and provide them to more city neighborhoods.
