(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in west suburban Riverside have issued a dramatic reminder of just how careful drivers should be when traveling in areas where deer cross the road.
Police have posted dash-cam video from a motorist’s car that filmed two deer getting hit while dashing across 1st Avenue near Parkview Road late Tuesday.
The video shows the front-end collision the motorist had with one of the deer; and a rear view of another deer struck and launched by a second vehicle.
Police Chief Tom Weitzel said his department has handled about four incidents this year of vehicles versus deer. He said accidents with multiple deer are rare.
“This is deer-mating season. That is a heavily wooded area there on First Avenue by Parkview Road, and we do get a lot of deer that cross there because the Des Plaines River adjacent to that location,” he said.
One driver was injured.
