(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Keeping cool was made a bit easier Tuesday by some volunteers in Auburn Gresham.
“They say it’s the hottest day of the summer so far, so we want to be out here and bless people.”
At the corner of 79th and Racine, Father Michael Pfleger and a group of volunteers did that by passing out thousands of free water bottles.
“A lot of people went out of the house without water or having a dollar or two dollars to buy water. We want to give them for free, let people know we care about their health, we want them to stay hydrated and let people know that we care about them,” Pfleger said.
Pfleger said each of the more than 4,000 bottles have been donated since he put out the call at St. Sabina on Sunday.
People were grateful to get the water.
“Oh my goodness. People have said, ‘thank you! Appreciate it! Love you!’ All positive. It’s just people grateful that somebody thinks about them out here.”
