CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man out walking his dog in the West Loop at about 7:30 Wednesday morning may have risked his life to prevent the abduction of a neighbor.
The man, who doesn’t want to be identified, said he knew something wasn’t right when he saw a group of people in a red car, and one of them got out and approached a woman at the corner of Adams and Sangamon.
“I saw him grab her on the shoulder, and he said, ‘hey baby, you’re looking good,’ or something like that and tried to get her in the car…What looked off was her body language. She obviously didn’t know this person,” the man said.
He told CBS-2 he yelled at the man and ran across the street. He was carrying pepper spray, which he used on the man and the three others in the car. They then took off.
“That’s very brave of you because you don’t know how that could have turned out,” a neighbor told the Good Samaritan.
“I didn’t think of that at the time…But, (beginning to tear up) I’m sorry, it’s what I would want someone to do if I was in trouble,” the man said.
Some in the neighborhood said he was a hero.
“It’s not about being a hero, it’s about being a neighbor,” the man concluded.
