West Loop residents concerned about homeless tent camp

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some West Loop residents have had it with a homeless tent camp.

They brought their concerns about the camp at Lake and Fulton to police during a community policing meeting.

West Loop resident Brendan Nyhan told CBS 2 what he sees outside his front door is outrageous.

"People dealing and buying drugs every day," he said. "I see them counting their money. I see people overdosing – frequently."

This camp was cleared and cleaned up in December. The tents are back now, and neighbors say the problems are as well.

One woman said she sees people shooting up drugs across the street from her home. Police acknowledge there’s a problem.

They say they’re doing surveillance, watching for illegal activity
and these things take time, but the residents want the CPD to have squads sit in the area to deter the drug deals.
