LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The West Nile Virus has been reported in Lincolnwood.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District said they have found the first West Nile virus positive mosquitoes to occur in their traps in Lincolnwood in 2023.

The batch of Mosquitoes was collected on June 16 and the virus was discovered in that batch in their lab 5 days later.

Also this year, WNV positive mosquitoes have been found in traps in Evanston and Northfield.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District said While the risk of being infected with West Nile virus is low, they recommend using insect repellent, wearing loose fitting clothing and avoiding peak mosquito feeding times during the hours around dawn and dusk.
