Restaurant owner struck and killed by car in SW suburbs

OSWGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Westmont restaurant owner has died after being hit by a car in Oswego.

Matthew Verde, 49, was the owner of Neat Kitchen + Bar, which has locations in Westmont and Oswego. He died Sunday after being hit by a car Thursday evening.

Oswego police said Verde was crossing the street on an access road near the Meijer on Route 34 around 9:40 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota driven by a 17-year-old girl.

He was transported to a hospital where he was put on life support, and according to a GoFundMe page started by a friend, Verde died Sunday at around 4:30 p.m.

The page is currently raising money to cover "upcoming arrangements and expenses."
