The Perch reopens after fire in Wicker Park, pledges portion of sales to Chicago firefighters

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After a fire at the Perch Kitchen and Tap in Wicker Park forced the restaurant to close its doors for more than one week, the restaurant reopened on Wednesday with a plan to say “thank you” to those who helped put out the blaze.

The Perch, which brews its own beer on site near Division Street and Damen Avenue, promised to donate $1 from every beer sold to the two fire stations that responded to the fire, which happened during dinner service on Nov. 26.

In a statement posted to social media, company officials said the fire started in a mechanical unit on the roof.

Thanks to a quick reaction from the manager and employees — as well as a prompt response from the Chicago Fire Department — the team at the Perch said everyone was safely evacuated from the building.

After repairs that took place while the restaurant was closed, the Perch plans to keep its normal business hours.

The restaurant opened in 2020 during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to its beer, the Perch is particularly well known for its brunch, as well as a menu that features dishes from its wood-fired grill and rotisserie.

Chicago's 4 Star Restaurant Group runs the Perch. The group also owns Smoke Daddy barbecue, Crosby’s Kitchen, Tuco and Blondie, Frasca Pizzeria and Wine Bar, Ella Elli and Remington’s.
