70-year-old Will County man critically shoots neighbor: Sheriff

WILL COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A shooting in unincorporated Lockport Township Tuesday left a woman in critical condition and her neighbor in jail.

It was just after 5:30 p.m. when the Will County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the area of 144th Place and Rickerman Road for a report of gunshots.

While on the way, the sheriff’s office said they learned that a 45-year-old woman had been shot by her neighbor, a 70-year-old man.

He was seen walking around his property after the incident.

Reverse 911 calls advised area residents to stay inside.  Deputies provided first aid until paramedics arrived.

The woman was shot in the chest. The bullet exited her back.

The sheriff’s office said the man briefly barricaded himself in his home and was convinced by a crisis negotiator to come out and he was taken to jail.

The woman was initially listed in critical condition.

There’s no information about what happened before the shooting.
