North Side coffee shop's window destroyed after displaying Palestinian flag

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Palestinian-owned cafe located on North Broadway reopened Tuesday after having a window displaying a Palestinian flag smashed.

Eyad Zeid owns Nabala Cafe, an Uptown coffee shop named after his family's home village in Palestine.

After only being open for a few weeks, Zeid told CBS News Chicago he woke up to a text informing him that someone had smashed his window displaying a Palestinian flag.

The business owner questions the motivation. Police said no one entered the building.

“I don’t know if we can go as far as calling it a hate crime or something racially motivated. It certainly feels that way,” Zeid said.

Zeid set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to replace the window and will donate whatever is left over to Gaza. He's already raised more than $10,000.
