CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago woman has been ordered to home confinement after being charged with reckless homicide and DUI in a weekend crash on the Eisenhower that took the lives of two recent high school graduates.

Cook County prosecutors said Ashanti Gates was drunk and driving on the shoulder of the outbound Eisenhower with her lights off when she hit two people changing a tire Sunday at around 3 a.m.

The 21-year-old Chicago woman allegedly was found to be at twice the legal blood alcohol limit, speeding and had a bottle of vodka and her 4-year-old child in her car.

Gates also faces child endangerment charges.

18-year-olds Shealyn Sherwood of Hoffman Estates and Erik Cox of Rolling Meadows were killed when, police said, Gates’ car hit them.
