CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 28-year-old Bronzeville woman faces charges after allegedly dragging a Chicago police officer with a car Monday during a traffic stop on the Near North Side.
The traffic stop unfolded at about 4 p.m. as officers pulled over Jasmine Smith for a registration violation in the 700 block of North State Street, according to a statement from Chicago police.
When officers asked her to step out of the car, Smith allegedly drove away and dragged an officer on the passenger side, police said.
She stopped the car one block south and was arrested, police said. The officer was taken to a hospital with a knee injury.
Smith was expected to appear in court later Tuesday to face a felony count each of aggravated battery to an officer and aggravated fleeing.
She also faces a misdemeanor count of reckless driving and citations for not carrying a license, no valid registration and disobeying an officer.
