(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Algonquin woman could face up to 60 years in prison after she pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the fatal stabbing of a married couple in 2020.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney announced 42-year-old Arin Fox’s guilty plea, which she entered on Oct. 6, on Tuesday.

Officials said it happened at the home of Leonard and Noreen Gilard, located at 635 Red Coach Lane in November 2020. Fox was living with the couple at the time. The Associated Press reported that Fox was dating their son.

Leonard was 73. Noreen was 69.

After the murders, prosecutors said Fox drove to Colorado the Gilard’s car, where she subsequently checked herself into a psychiatric facility on the evening of Nov. 7, 2020.

Leonard and Noreen’s bodies were discovered during a wellness check shortly after the killing.

Fox was eventually extradited back to Illinois, but the state’s attorney’s office said she was found incompetent to stand trial in October of 2021. She was cleared to stand trial in June 2022.

A sentencing hearing for Fox will be held on Dec. 6, 2023.
