Woman killed, 2 kids critically injured in Far South Side crash: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A driver has died and two children have been hospitalized following an overnight single-vehicle crash on the Far South Side.

Chicago Police said the accident happened at around 2:40 a.m. on 106th street, not far from the Calumet River. A woman was driving a car westbound on 106th when she hit a light pole.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a 5-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy were both ejected from the car. They were taken to an Indiana hospital by a man known to the female victim.

The boy and girl have since been transferred to Comer Children's Hospital. They are listed in critical condition.

No other details were provided. Police have yet to reveal her identity.

CPD’s Major Accidents Unit will handle the investigation.
