CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It's been about a year since migrants since started being bussed to Chicago and a Hyde Park woman is dedicating her time to helping them.
Lucia Donner said she heard that migrants were coming to Chicago from her professor at the University of Chicago.
At first, Donner wasn't able to do too much, until about a month ago.
"I kind of just felt like you know what, let me go take some gently used clothing my children no longer have use for, and I just went to the station and I wanted to introduce myself and try to form connections and see what's needed," she said.
Donner said since then, she's formed relationships with many of the migrants and has even started a Facebook group for other Hyde Park residents looking to help.
She said for her, it's just the human thing to do.
"The stories that I hear... really, they're just like us except they've experienced-I like to think, different types of traumas we wouldn't see here in the United States, and I think it's really important for individuals to understand that."
