(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As she prepares to take part in a local study into Long COVID, an Inverness woman is hoping her story serves as a warning to others.
“I’m not myself," Debbie Tumbarello said.
She said she took all the proper steps to protect herself from COVID-19, but after a trip to Las Vegas earlier this year, her luck ran out.
“To be honest, I’m really disappointed in myself.”
Once her symptoms refused to go away, Tumbarello was connected with an infectious disease expert, who diagnosed her with long COVID.
“I’m experiencing severe fatigue, brain fog,” she said. “I can’t concentrate. There are some days where I’m fighting for words to complete a sentence.”
Tumbarello has been pre-qualified to take part in the RECOVER program at Northshore – Edward Elmhurst Health, which aims to study, treat and prevent Long COVID.
“I’m hoping that this is going to give me a little light at the end of the tunnel,” she said. “Right now, I just don’t know what each day is going to bring.”
