A northern Illinois woman is suing Urban Air Adventure Park in Bloomingdale after a zipline ride left her with neck injuries.

Evelyn Rapier, 24, of Loves Park, was at the indoor adventure park last November for her 3-year-old’s birthday party. While there, Rapier decided to ride on the zipline.

Her attorney Marc McCallister said the harness attached to Rapier came loose and slipped around her neck.

“Instantly I thought something was going to happen,” Rapier said. “Either I was going to be brain dead or I was going to be gone.”

In her suit, Rapier has asked for unspecified damages.

“Not only did she suffer injuries —  and this has been traumatic and [has produced] quite a bit of anxiety for her since this happened — but also just to raise awareness to show how dangerous these rides can be,” McCallister said.

In a statement to WBBM, Urban Air Adventure Park said:“The safety and well-being of our guests and employees is Urban Air's highest priority in everything we do. One injury is too many, but ... ride safety is a shared partnership between the park and their guests and it’s essential they follow posted and verbal guidelines.”

Urban Air officials added that all staff members were retrained after the November 2021 incident.
