Woman suspected of drowning in NW Indiana lake

HOBART, IND. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Fire department divers recovered the body of a woman believed to have drowned Sunday afternoon in a Northwest Indiana lake.

The Hobart Fire Department said divers in Robinson Lake made the discovery shortly before 3 p.m.

The woman was reported missing several hours earlier. Police officers responded and entered the lake, searching for a woman who witnesses claimed was in the water. The officers could not find the woman.

The identity and age of the woman has yet to be revealed. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is investigating the death.

Hobart fire officials stressed how crucial safety around water must be, noting the frequency of drownings in recent years.
