(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Criminal charges have been filed against a 45-year-old Crystal Lake woman who allegedly hid evidence of a fatal ATV crash in February.
Officials say Samantha Jacobsen called 9-1-1 early on Feb. 7 to report a man unresponsive in the street. The man, 56-year-old Glenn Luthardt, later died at a hospital.
Now, investigators have pieced together what really happened, using surveillance video and interviews, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacobsen and Luthardt had been drinking at a bar, when the man got up to go. Jacobsen told Luthardt not to drive home on his ATV, but he set off, anyway. She followed, authorities allege.
When Luthardt crashed in unincorporated Spring Grove, Jacobsen arranged for the ATV to be removed from the scene, along with other evidence, sheriff’s police say. Jacobsen is accused of lying to investigators.
She is charged with obstruction of justice and has been released pending trial.
“From the decision to operate a vehicle under the influence, to the poor decision to lie and hide evidence, this entire set of circumstances is unfortunate,” Sheriff John Idleburg said in a written statement.
