CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Work has begun to stem the lakefront erosion at Berger Park in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side.

Storms and waves have taken their toll, among other places, on the shoreline at Berger Park in the 6200 block of North Sheridan Road. Work began this week to build it back up.

According to 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman’s website, the Chicago Department of Transportation work should go on until mid-November. While it’s going on, portions of the park will be closed and there’ll be times when material is being delivered that the curb lane on Sheridan will be closed.

Armor stone will be placed along the shoreline to slow the erosion and damage caused by several storms since last year. The gravel walking path will also be reconstructed.
