Worker on Kennedy Expressway killed in hit-and-run: ISP

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A construction worker was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Kennedy Expressway Monday night.

Illinois State Police (ISP) said the incident happened at around 9:20 p.m. on the outbound Kennedy, near Kinzie Street.

Fifty-four-year-old Francisco Padilla-Gutierrez, the Cook County Medical Examiner said, was working on a lift, painting Hubbard’s Cave when a semi hit the lift. The semi did not stop at the scene, Illinois State Police said.

Padilla-Guteirrez died at the scene.

The crash caused a second accident, ISP said, involving two other cars. Occupants in those vehicles refused medical treatment.

All outbound lanes near the crash were shut down for several hours. ISP reopened them at 12:30 a.m.
