GLENVIEW (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Glenbrook District 225 School Board voted Monday night to remove the yearbook advisor after a controversial quote was published in this year’s edition.

Brenda Field has been suspended without pay for a month and can no longer provide student instruction but was not fired.

The move by the school board comes after an investigation found she did not talk with administrators about a quote from a student that appeared to say they were happy about the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel and spent little time overseeing the publication.

School Board President Bruce Dougherty said the incident created harm to students and staff.

“The removal of Ms. Field gives us some comfort that this type of error will not occur in the future,” Dougherty said. “In addition, the administration will take all steps, directed by the board, to avoid similar lapses in judgment in other co-curricular activities.”

The board wants administrators to train all employees on antisemitism and sponsors of student publications on ethics.
