Some bags of dry cat food brand Meow Mix have been recalled due to a possible salmonella contamination.

J.M. Smucker Co., the parent company of the feline food, announced the limited recall, reports Delish.

The recall cites 30-pound bags of Meow Mix Original Choice Dry Cat Food that were sold at various Walmarts throughout the country.

The notice applies to bags of the cat food that were purchased at locations in states including Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

According to the recall, customers who purchased the food for their pets should discard the item and not let their pet eat it.

The disclaimer advises customers to check their Meow Mix bags for UPC codes of 2927452099 and best-by dates of September 14 and September 15 of 2022.

In addition to getting rid of the food, the recall advises owners to wash their hands after handling (this is standard for all food recalls).

A salmonella contamination has the potential to infect both cats and cat owners.

Feline symptoms for the illness include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fever and excessive salivation.

For humans, symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
